SEND Provision

We are an inclusive Sixth Form. Students with additional needs are supported within and outside lessons. Individualised study programmes are available.

Provision:

We cater for students with a range of additional needs, including students with Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs) and students who have previously received additional support within their education.  Students may access A Level, BTEC Level 3, or BTEC Level 2 routes, providing they meet the entry requirements. Bespoke curriculum packages can be tailored to meet students’ needs, for instance small group Maths and English teaching working on stepping stone qualifications prior to GCSE level. Some courses involve work placements (e.g. Childcare) and we encourage our students to take full advantages of these opportunities. Eligible students receive support with external examinations e.g. additional rooms rather than examination halls and the provision of scribes, readers and extra time.

Support:

Over the last three years we have developed a dedicated Learning Support Team which is based in the Learning Zone, in the Sixth Form Centre. Students have access to post-16 specialist teaching assistants, and one to one support which is offered on a wide-range of subjects to assist students with their studies. Members of the team also work alongside students in the classroom to offer support and guidance. We feel this provides valuable continuity for students and develops positive learning partnerships.

Opportunities:

There are opportunities during the academic year for students to gain vital life skills and experiences of the working world. This includes tailored work experience placements; visits to factories such as Uncle Joe’s Mint Balls, Road Safety Awareness, Safe Drive Stay Alive, industry specific activities such as visits to Blackpool Pleasure Beach for BTEC Level 2 Travel and Tourism, and bespoke packages from community based groups, such as My Life; where are students attend on a weekly basis to learn cooking, animal care, hospitality and develop valuable social and communication skills to help them achieve in life.

We would welcome the opportunity to discuss the individual needs of your son/daughter and the educational programmes available at the Deanery Sixth Form.
