Information for Parents

The transition from school to college is just the start of a new and exciting journey in your son/daughter’s education. During their time at college, they will gain confidence and independence, but we know it is still important to keep parents informed.

Your son/daughter will be assigned a Personal Tutor who, from their first day at college, will look after their wellbeing as well as monitoring their academic progress.

The Sixth Form At The Deanery also has a Welfare and Guidance Officer, Mrs Crowe and an Attendance/ Administrator, Mrs Hampson.  Mrs Crowe and Mrs Hampson are the first point of contact for parents/guardians. You can get in touch with them using the main college number 01942 597517.

Our students are regularly assessed within their subject areas to track progress.  All students are issued with Target Minimum Grades/Levels for each subject area.  Subjects use a number of assessments each half term to measure progress towards meeting these targets.

Regular assessment allows for checking progress so subject teachers & The Sixth Form Team can provide additional support where necessary.  Students are able to make improvements where necessary.

We have a mock week in December/January during which all students complete mock exams in their chosen subjects allowing students the opportunity for examination preparation.  There are 3 Progress Review Points during the academic year.  This includes academic performance and commitment to learning.  Subject teacher comments are provided in December and Progress Tutor comments in March.

Student Self-Monitoring and Review allows student ownership of their own learning.  Students can create personal targets, self-monitoring and reflection for each piece of work and feedback.

A Level subjects are now all linear examinations taken at the end of the course.  The Sixth Form at The Deanery students complete AS examinations at the end of year one (in some subjects) and A Level examinations at the end of year two.
