Supporting Young People with their Mental Health

Where can I access support?

What if someone is having suicidal thoughts, or there is a concern to their mental health presentation?

CAMHS (Wigan Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services). The service is for young people ages up to 18 years and they can help with problems such as feeling depressed, anxious and lots of other problems and worries. Information will be kept confidential. Contact the advice line on 01942 775400, Monday to Thursday 8.30 – 5pm, Fridays 8.30 – 4pm. 

If any young person discloses self-harm or suicidal thoughts after 5pm please contact 0800 051 3253  a 24/7 mental health crisis line for people of all ages in Wigan.

In an emergency, call 999 or attend A&E if: 

  • Someone’s life is at risk – for example they have seriously injured themselves or taken an overdose.
  • You do not feel you can keep yourself or someone else safe.

A mental health emergency should be taken as seriously as a physical one. You will not be wasting anyone’s time.
