Key Stage 4
Subject: Art
Aims of the subject: All Art and Design courses will include working with a variety of materials, techniques and processes, the study of artists and art movements (contextual studies) and visits to galleries. Pupils will be able to choose from one of the following options.
GCSE Examination Board: AQA
Assessment Overview:
Examination 40%
Coursework 60%
Choice 1: Art and Design – Art, Craft and Design
A popular option for all abilities. This is a broad course exploring practical and contextual work through a wide range of 2D and 3D media, processes and techniques with the opportunity to explore painting, drawing, printing, textiles, ceramics, sculpture, ICT, graphics etc.
Choice 2: Textile Design
Textile design is defined here as the creation of designs and products for woven, knitted, stitched, printed or decorative textiles that might have a functional or non-functional purpose.
Please note that we may not be able to run both choices. If it is necessary to limit the courses, then the most popular will run. Children who opted for an art course that does not run will have the chance to choose an alternative art course that is running.

Main Project– Refinement & completion
Students will have the opportunity to complete their project and final 3D textile piece. They will be expected to make independent, purposeful decisions, demonstrating analytical and critical thinking, to refine their ideas towards a final outcome. The following aspects of knowledge, understanding, and skills will be outlined in greater detail to ensure that students’ work is focused and relevant to textile design.
Term 2: Exam
The Exam question paper is released during the first week in January
Pupils will be introduced to the exam paper and will explore the potential of their chosen question. A clear timeframe will be outlined for the exam preparation period within which pupils will be required to independently develop a body of work that meets all four assessment objectives.

All candidates will be issued with a pupil handbook and will be expected to equip themselves with a set of basic materials; an A4/A3 sketchpad, drawing pencils, coloured pencils, a box of watercolours, sewing kit, fabric, embellishment components.
