Why Study Public Services?
Public Services is a popular choice at BTEC Level 3’ and a range of subjects complement the course. Public Services go well with Business, PE/Sport, Geography, History, Sociology and Politics.
Many people have the misconception that you only study this subject if you want a career working for an actual Public service, but only a small percentage of our students ever intend and go onto do this. It is a much broader qualification than many think, with you learning about Government, Legislation, Citizenship, Leadership, Management, Teamwork, Health & Fitness, Police Powers, War, Conflict and Terrorism.
Whilst studying BTEC Public Services Level 3 you will gain many transferable skills which will aid you in your further study or future career. These skills include:

You will enhance your skills and understanding of the UK Public Services with use of specialist text books, practical activities/role play, use of the school’s Virtual Learning Environment ‘Frog’, as well as using the media on a weekly basis to help focus on real life events which will help reinforce and contextualise the theory we learn in the syllabus.
In 2017, we had a 100% pass rate with 82% achieving Distinction/Distinction* in the Subsidiary Diploma (U6). More than half of the class achieved the maximum Distinction* grade. For the Certificate (L6) we had 100% pass rate with 91% achieving Distinction*. Yet again this year the subject proved a very popular option with eighteen students opting to take BTEC Level 3 Public Services, several of whom had studied the BTEC First Award Level 1/2 Award in Public Services at The Deanery. Also the specification is all assignment based so you have no exam to worry about. Students feel that the location, familiarity and the atmosphere played a big part when choosing this college!
What could this subject lead to?
This BTEC Level 3 provides a solid foundation for studying public service related subjects at University. In the workplace, there a wide range of different careers which this qualification would be a great asset such as:
Uniformed public services (fire & rescue, Armed forces, Police, Prison Service, Ambulance)
Non-uniformed public service (Teaching, Custodial care, Government, Civil Service, Local Councils).
