Celebrating a successful OfSTED inspection
The Deanery is a good school!
Â
From time to time we publish special editions of HeadLines; we thought it was worth doing so today to share the provisional outcome of the visit we had from OfSTED this week. Can I thank parents for their support during this week? The response to the parents’ survey, for example, was good despite the necessarily short time-scale allowed for replies. Thank you!

“A good school”
I am delighted to report that the team of inspectors decided that The Deanery is a good and improving school. They judged that the progress pupils make here is good, that attainment is above average, that teaching and learning at our school is good, that behaviour is good — all in all, most of the judgements they made were “good”. Some were “satisfactory” (e.g. those relating to the Sixth Form), and naturally we will be working hard over the months ahead to ensure we improve those to the point where they are “good” or even “outstanding” next time. The inspectors also said that our school’s capacity for further improvement is good. I was particularly pleased about this, because we have worked hard to improve our school since our last Inspection (in February 2007) when OfSTED judged us to be “satisfactory” overall. The inspectors felt we had an accurate view of our strengths and weaknesses and the right ideas to improve our school still further. We may be a “good” school this time but we are all very keen to be an “outstanding” school next time!

Deanery Exam Results 2009 |
|
GCSEs
Once again Deanery students have achieved some of their best ever GCSE results, with 64% achieving 5 or more higher-grade GCSEs including English and Maths. Our top ten GCSE students achieved a staggering 71 A* grades and 37 A grades between them!
This was a magnificent achievement by both pupils and staff. Congratulations to all concerned!
A LEVELS
Another excellent set of exam results was achieved by our Sixth Form students. The pass rate was 97.5% and out of the 27 subjects on offer at A Level, 100% was achieved in 21 of these. Many of the Deanery's Upper Sixth have secured places at one of their top two choices of university.
Well done to all concerned!
